Here is a message to concerned citizens sent to me from Sedgwick County Commissioner Richard Ranzau:
To whom it may concern:
Next BOCC meeting on July 13, 2011 at 9:00, we will be having a public hearing on applying for a Federal grant(see item E in attached agenda). This is unusual since it is not normally required. But since it is required for this grant, it will give citizens a unique opportunity to speak out on taking Federal grants at a time that the feds are virtually bankrupt and borrowing 40 cents out every dollar. This is a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for a total of $446,130 with half going to the city of Wichita and the other half going to Sedgwick County.
The County will be spending it's money on a variety of things to include salary for a toxicologist, computers for the District Attorney, and a new target system (total of 50 stations) for the sheriff's firing range. I am not saying these things that are not needed, but should the Feds be paying for it? (or our children)
Just thought I would let you know in case anyone in your organization would like to speak on this issue.
Thanks,
Richard Ranzau
P.S from John Todd:
Please call me if you have questions. If you cannot attend personally, please consider sending an email of support for Commissioner Ranzau to me on this issue that I can duplicate and share with all of the County Commissioners tomorrow.
