Dear Friend of Liberty,
There's been lots of news coverage, political posturing, and heated debate over the president's closing and barricading of the World War II Memorial during the government so-called "shutdown." Many people, including WWII Veterans, have crossed the barricades in defiance.
Of course, we know this is only a temporary 27 percent slowdown, not an across-the-board shutdown.
In any case, I walked by the memorial on Sunday afternoon to take a look for myself. It's only about a mile from our Libertarian Party headquarters.
According to Wikipedia, the federal government provided only $16 million of the $197 million raised to build the memorial. Other funding came from veterans groups and other individuals and businesses. The memorial is administered by the National Park Service.
The obvious question is, "are Libertarians for, or against, closing the World War II Memorial during government shutdowns?"
But I'm not comfortable with that question. Here's my question, and I'm interested in your answer.
Which option most closely matches your feeling about the closing of the WWII Memorial during the so-called government shutdown?

The government should not have closed the WWII Memorial. It was OK for the government to close the WWII Memorial. I don't care much whether or not the memorial was closed during the shutdown. The WWII Memorial should have been built on private property to avoid political meddling. A non-interventionist policy at the time of WWI might have prevented WWII. Other
