Liberal vs. Conservative: A Libertarian Critique

You have probably at some time been e-mailed this Conservative versus Liberal piece. I have taken the liberty of editing it to provide a libertarian critique. My revisions are in italics. In my personal opinion there is not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrat and Republican parties. They are actually just seperate wings of the Big Government Party. I am excluding all newly elected Tea Party members who happened to use the Republican Party as their vehicle to electoral success in 2010. I am also excluding statesmen like Dr. Ron Paul and KNSS radio talk show host Jim Anderson who are true "Old Right", "Goldwater Conservatives" or Constitutionalists! Posted by Shawn S. Smith

Liberal vs. Conservative: A Libertarian Critique

If a Conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a Liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
A Libertarian believes that all guns should be legal not just the ones approved by the government!

If a Conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a Liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
A Libertarian has discovered that the USDA is completely incompetent in guaranteeing food safety!

If a Conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A Liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.
A Libertarian sees a threat as an invading army, navy or air force, not a third world country (or countries) halfway across the globe!

If a Conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. Until he is outed and ostracised by a member of the Religious Right! If a Liberal is a homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
A Libertarian sees anti-discrimination laws as against freedom of association and a persons sex life as private.

If a person of color is Conservative, they see themselves as independently successful.
Their Liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.
A Libertarian believes that government at all levels victimizes its citizens keeping them from being independently successful!

If a Conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
A Libertarian realizes that private charity is far more effective than the Welfare State!

If a Conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. But still favors censorship of what he deems "obscene"! Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
A Libertarian wonders if one truly favors free speech why does the FCC still exist?

If a Conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
Libertarians believe in both freedom of religion and freedom from religion!

If a Conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. Unless he is over 65 and receiving Medicare or Medicaid then the government (taxpayer's) can pay for it. A Liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
A Libertarian questions the wisdom of government having its hand in healthcare at all!

If a Conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
If a Liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.
A Libertarian sees a need for a free market in insurance as well as tort system reform.

If a Conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Liberal will delete it because he's "offended".
A Libertarian will read this and remember why he joined the Libertarian Party!
