Dear Fellow Libertarians:

Volunteers are going all-out to keep Libertarians Gov Gary Johnson and Judge Jim Gary on the ballot in Pennsylvania - and our whole slate of statewide PA Libertarian candidates.
Roy Minet who's heading the effort to stave off the Republican's
challenge, reports:

"As of late yesterday afternoon, we completed the review of approximately 26,000 petition signatures from the Philadelphia area. The Republicans expected us to fold by about the middle of LAST week. Because of our dedicated and motivated volunteers, we did NOT throw in the towel and are still vigorously fighting the Republican bullies and their battery of dark-suited attorneys.

"But the battle is not yet over and NOW MOVES TO HARRISBURG."

We need help now to win this ballot. We need a few more volunteers next week to be in court and fight the rest of this challenge – and funds to pay for court costs .

We'll spend tens of thousands of dollars to fight this ballot - we're not sure where the tab will end. We immediately need $18,000 to pay our legal bills.

Would you please donate now as we continue the fight?

Roy Minet also had this to say:

"I literally get choked up when I think of all the people who have answered the call to stand up to this gang of bullies.  They have come from far and near.  Some have stayed for quite a few days in motels. Seven states have been represented from as far away as Colorado! People have taken off work and used their vacation time.  Quite a few have come multiple days and a few have answered the call almost every day.  Some from other parties have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us to sustain this effort going into its third week.  We have been welded into a unified and effective team by the need to provide voters real choices on the ballot and to overcome the rigged election laws that have been engineered by the two old parties to eliminate their competition!"

If you can be in Harrisburg Wednesday and/or Thursday, September 5-6 from 9:00am to 5:00pm, please send an email now to roy.minet@comcast.net.

If you can donate now, please click here and note "PA ballot challenge" in the comment field at the bottom of this form.

Please do what you can to help. Let's win this one!

Thank you!

Yours in liberty,

Carla Howell

It’s not too late! Come Join the LP and Thousands of Ron Paul Activists in Tampa, Florida this weekend

A weekend of liberty, activism, speakers, music and fun!

If you can get to there – or know someone who can - Tampa is the place to be from Friday afternoon, August 24th through Sunday evening, August 26th.
The Libertarian Party is co-sponsoring Paul Festival, a major celebration in honor of Dr. Ron Paul for his decades of devotion and advocacy of liberty.
Barring a miracle, Ron Paul will be ending his campaign some time next week. That leaves Libertarian Presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson as the obvious choice for president in 2012.
The Republican Party Establishment stubbornly refuses to give Dr. Paul a speaking slot on the main floor of the GOP convention that begins August 27th in Tampa, Florida. Rather, they want all their focus on handing the Republican nomination to Big Government Mitt Romney and his Big Government running mate, Paul Ryan.
Ron Paul supporters will be looking for a presidential candidate – and a political party – that represents them. Good News: Even IF they chose to stay in the GOP, they can still join the LP and support Libertarian candidates.
The Paul Festival will be a weekend extravaganza of liberty activism, music and fun happening right before the GOP convention begins.
The Libertarian Party will be there, and because of the generous donations of our members who want us to play a big part in this event, we will also be a proud sponsor of the Paul Festival this year.
Libertarian Presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson will speak  Saturday, August 25th (Prime Time!) at 4:30 P.M.
Libertarian Party National Chair, Geoffrey Neale will speak Friday August 24th  late afternoon
Libertarian Vice Presidential candidate Judge Jim Gray and Libertarian Party Executive Director Carla Howell will speak  Sunday evening, August 26th around 7:00 P.M. (times are subject to change)
Festivities start Friday 1:00 P.M. August 24th and end after the last band plays on Sunday evening, August 26th in Tampa, Florida. The Republican national convention begins the following day on Monday, August 27th. All events are indoors to protect against heat and bad weather.
The national and Florida Libertarian parties (and any other affiliates or members who want to join us) will have a huge presence at this event. We’ll have a big booth, lots of volunteers and key Libertarian speaker will be on the main stage.
In addition, there’s a full line-up of fascinating liberty speakers speaking on a variety of topics Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning and evening. Great bands will perform throughout the weekend.
4 Ways You Can Make This a Huge Success for the Libertarian Party and for the future of liberty:
1. Come. If you can make it to this exciting event – please do! You can get two $70 weekend passes for the price of just one – or $35 apiece for the whole weekend. Or you can get day passes for two people for just $30– or $15 apiece. Buy your tickets here.
2. Volunteer. If you want to help set up or work the Libertarian Party booth, click here to let us know your availability. You can even come a day or two early to help organizers set up the entire event.
3. Donate. Your donation can fund Libertarian Party fliers, handouts, World’s Small Political Quiz, bumper stickers, and Libertarian Presidential Campaign Promos. Donate today to help us inform, invite, and involve Ron Paul Activists in the LP and our Libertarian campaigns.
4. Spread the word! Tell your libertarian friends and those who are Ron Paul supporters about it and encourage them to come!
Please help us make this a turning point event that will be remembered for years to come by participating in whatever way suits you best.
Yours for liberty,
Carla Howell

“Republicans fear that Governor Gary Johnson on the Pennsylvania ballot may cost Mitt Romney crucial votes in a tight Presidential contest”

Dear Friends,
20,601 Pennsylvania registered voter signatures are required to put Gary Johnson on the ballot.
On August 1st, the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania filed nearly 50,000 petition signatures to put Libertarian Presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson on the ballot.
On August 8th, Republicans filed legal challenges against our petition signatures – despite the fact that that the “challenge” doesn’t pass the laugh test and is designed to cost us time and money. The Libertarian Party clearly has way more than enough valid signatures to qualify our Presidential ticket for the 2012 ballot.
But now we’re in a nasty legal and administrative fight to keep what we earned: ballot status in Pennsylvania for our Libertarian Presidential ticket.
The Commonwealth Court ordered us to provide 20 libertarian volunteers each weekday – starting a few days ago on Mon. August 20th – to match up/verify ballot petition signatures with the PA voter registration roll database.
Further, we have legal fees and court costs. To defend the Libertarian Party’s ballot status. To defend Pennsylvania’s voters’ right to vote Libertarian.
In 1996, Harry Browne garnered 28,000 votes in Pennsylvania.
How many votes can Gov. Johnson and Judge Gray get in Pennsylvania this year? Enough to scare Big Government Republican Mitt Romney.
Time is short. We need your immediate help to protect the Libertarian Presidential ticket’s place on the Pennsylvania ballot.
We’ve already written and sent the first $5,500 check for this legal defense.
This could cost us $10,000 to $35,000 this week and next.
Your donation is our legal defense budget.
If you can donate $10,000 today, will you please do it?
If you can afford to contribute $5,000 or $2,500 now, will you please help?
Or if you can give $1,000 or $500, will you please give now?
Or $250 or $100 – or $75 or $50. Don’t let the Republicans throw Gary Johnson off the Pennsylvania ballot. Please contribute now.
Even $5 will help. Whatever you can give, please make a difference by giving it now.
Please either click and donate now or mail your donation to the address below with "ballot access" in the memo.
Your donation now is our libertarian defense budget.
Thank you.
Yours for liberty,
Carla Howell

The 3 days before the Republican Presidential Convention begins, over 13,000 Ron Paul Activists Are Showing Up to Celebrate the Mission & Message of Dr. Ron Paul: Liberty!

A weekend of liberty, activism, speakers, music and fun!

As the Ron Paul for President campaign finishes up just two weeks from now, Ron Paul Organizers, Activists and Supporters, working with the Libertarian Party, will sponsor a major celebration in his honor – and for the future of liberty. This will be an amazing event and a great opportunity for the LP.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 15, 2012

On Wednesday, August 15th, it was reported by the Associated Press that the chairman of the Kansas State Board of Education had called for a review of homeschooling in Kansas and possible legislative intervention to ensure that homeschooled children in Kansas are receiving an education approved by state government officials.

The Libertarian Party of Kansas strongly opposes this call for government intervention, along with the entire mindset that says government employees are somehow more qualified than the parents of Kansas to raise their own children.

Libertarians stand in support of the state governments role of protecting individuals, both children and adults, from clear cases of harm.  However, they do not believe that parents teaching a curriculum that state employees have not explicitly approved rises to the level of harm to these children.  Libertarians know that the ultimate right and responsibility of choosing appropriate education for children belongs in the hands of those childrens parents.

Kansans must unite to protect the rights of all parents to raise and educate their children as they see fit.  A single set of state mandated curricula and teaching methods cannot account for all learning styles and individual interests.  It is a simple truth that one size fits all, never truly fits all.  That truth is equally valid in the education of our children.

Stacey Davis, Policy Researcher for The Libertarian Party of Kansas, encourages Kansas legislators to resist political pressure to complicate the lives of the thousands of successful homeschooling Kansas families by introducing additional regulations.  Many of these families have already chosen to make difficult sacrifices to do what they believe is best for their children and additional reporting or testing requirements will only take these parents time away from their children.

The Libertarian Party also encourages state legislators to make expanded school choice for all Kansas families a priority in the coming session.   For the last two sessions, the Kansas House has considered legislation based upon The Kansas Education Liberty Act (KELA).  KELA is model legislation created by the Libertarian Party of Kansas and has garnered growing support of Kansas legislators.  Legislation based upon KELA fell just short of passage in the house last session.

What a time it is. There are so many local, state and national issues and events that I, and probably you too, are reeling from it all.
First though, I would like to make you aware that New Hampshire has recently passed a law allowing defense attorneys to inform the trial jury of their rights as jurors to judge the law as well the facts of the case! A win for Jury Rights. Hooray, one down with forty-nine and DC to go.
LSOCK has been promoting Jury Right’s for many years now, passing out Fully Informed Jury Association (FIJA, go to fija.org) and other literature at the Sedgwick County Courthouse around Jury Rights Day (September 5) and other days through the year as well.
Locally, the fluoride forces are at it again. It looks like Wichita will have its third vote on this issue, probably in November. I recently had a letter published in the Wichita Eagle voicing my opposition to this. The Eagle edited my letter by removing several key points. 1) That Wichita was the largest city in the US without fluoridated water for many years but now it is the fourth largest; and  2) A study should be made to determine if there are fewer dentists per capita in communities with fluoridated water than communities that do not fluoridate.
I submitted a similar letter a few years ago when the issue was being discussed. That letter was never published. It seems to me that these are very valid points to consider when claims are made regarding fluoride’s supposed benefits but fluoride’s proponents do not seem to want to even acknowledge them.
The primaries today (Tuesday, August 7) for the R and D nominations for county and state offices are not open to registered Libertarians but will certainly affect us along with all other Kansans.
In a strange turn of events we are seeing the so-called moderate/traditional Republicans being attacked by the conservative wing of the Kansas GOP, including Governor Brownback, so that the conservatives can take over the State Senate, thus giving total control of state government to the conservative republicans.
Even stranger, this possibility has spawned a movement among Democrats to change their registrations to Republican so they can vote for the moderate Republicans in the Republican primary. Even life-long Democrat Vern Miller, former Sedgwick County Sheriff, Kansas Attorney General and candidate for Governor, changed his registration to Republican for this primary.
The Presidential race has gone completely crazy as well. The talking heads from the left are making claims that since Romney has only released two years of his tax returns,he must be hiding paying low or no taxes for many of the years he has not released tax forms for. They add that he may have Swiss bank accounts that he hid, which is a felony, and may have used an amnesty program to avoid criminal penalties.
Senate Majority Leader Henry Reid and other congressional democrats have joined in this mud-fest along with the liberal media talking heads. All this without a shred of proof. However, when Members of Congress are polled regarding releasing their own tax returns, they almost universally state that they will not.
The Republican Party is still trying to disenfranchise supporters of Dr. Ron Paul and preventing them from attending the Republican nominating convention later this month. In the meantime Romney continues to make gaffs at nearly every stop.
Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico and the LP candidate for President is getting more interest from both voters and the media than any LP Presidential nominee in LP history. The Wichita Eagle even ran a recent article on Governor Johnson that was very positive.
Governor Johnson has been invited to speak at the Rally for Dr. Ron Paul that will take place in Tampa just before the GOP Convention. He will likely get even more attention from disaffected Republican Ron Paul supporters after his appearance there.

1.       State Fair Volunteers Needed Now
Once again, it is time to prepare for the Kansas State Fair . We need volunteers to staff the LPKS Outreach Booth, aka the Politically Homeless Booth, this coming September.
Our booth must have at least one (preferably two or more) person(s) manning the booth from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day from September 7 through the 16.
That is Friday the 7th to Sunday the 16th.
I will be doing the scheduling for this event again this year. The day is split into morning (9 AM to 3 PM) and evening (3 PM to 9 PM) shifts but I can schedule you for anytime through the day that you may have available to volunteer.
The LPKS does outreach booths at a variety of festivals around the state but the Kansas State Fair allows us to contact a wide cross section of Kansans from all over the entire state at this one event.
If you want to assist us please contact me, Steven Rosile, by replying to this email or sarasile@att.net , or calling me at 316 618-1339.

3  Gary Johnson Campaign Signs Available Now
A limited number of Gary Johnson for President yard signs are available for locations in high traffic areas at no cost. Come to the weekly LSOCK Supper Meeting Tuesdays at Mikes Steakhouse and pick one up or contact me by replying to this email to arrange delivery.

4        Thomas Jefferson Gets Media Attention
Thomas Jefferson, the Libertarian Party candidate for 4th District US House of Representatives has been getting quite a bit of attention from the media lately.
Jefferson, formerly known as Jack Talbert, legally changed his name to Thomas Jefferson to draw attention to his campaign and to the fact that this country has moved far away from our founding principles and Constitution.
The strategy appears to be working as he has been featured in newspaper articles, Kansas and national television, and many radio stations including NPR.
You can get more information on Jefferson and his campaign for US House at his website. Go to:   http://www.jeffersonforcongress.com/
