Poll says majority of Americans aligned with Libertarian Party on foreign policy
Majority Says U.S. Should 'Mind Its Own Business Internationally'
A poll released by the Pew Research Center indicates that a majority of Americans are aligned with the Libertarian Party's goals of less U.S. military intervention and more free trade.
The poll concludes that Americans' support for U.S. global engagement has fallen to a historic low while "support for closer trade and business ties with other nations stands at its highest point in more than a decade."
For the first time in nearly 40 years since the survey was first conducted, a majority (52 percent) say that the United States should "mind its own business internationally and let other countries get along the best they can on their own."
Add foreign policy to the growing list of broad issues with which the American public is aligned with the Libertarian Party.

LP statement on rock-bottom approval ratings for lobbyists, Congress

LP Political Director Carla Howell was quoted by Press TV
on Dec. 16, 2013
A Gallup Poll released on Dec. 16 that was conducted a week earlier shows that Americans disapprove of lobbyists and members of Congress the most out of 22 categories of professionals.
In response, LP Political Director Carla Howell made this statement on Press TV:
It is no wonder that Democrats and Republicans in Congress, along with their lobbyists, are viewed so poorly by the American people.
Democrats and Republicans are supposed to represent the people, but they don't.
They cater to lobbyists who work for powerful special interests which profit from Big Government — on the backs of the American worker: Corporations, government contractors, government unions, lawyers and other cartels, and government bureaucracies.
Democrats and Republicans don't even seem to care that their approval ratings are in the gutter. So long as they can pass laws to marginalize other political parties and get themselves re-elected, they're satisfied.

Libertarian and former lawmaker Charles Earl running for Ohio governor aims to reduce personal, business taxes to 'zero'
Charles Earl
Charles Earl,
LP Ohio
Candidate for Governor
Charles Earl, a former Republican representative in the Ohio General Assembly who switched his party affiliation to Libertarian in 2010, is running for governor in Ohio in 2014 to advance personal freedom and constitutional government.
Earl told the Sandusky Register, "We aim to reduce business and corporate taxes to 'zero.' Therefore, no large corporate entity will receive favored treatment via the tax code. All businesses of all sizes will have equal competitive statures under our plan."
He continued, "With the anticipated increase in economic activity, we plan to reduce the personal income to 'zero' as well. It is immoral and unconscionable for government to benefit from a person's labor."

Elected Libertarian councilman campaigned on high city debt
Libertarian Councilman Erwin Haas
Erwin Haas,
Kentwood, Mich., City Commissioner
Thanks to newly-elected Libertarian Erwin Haas, the people in Kentwood, Mich., a suburb of Grand Rapids, now know there's a huge public debt problem.
Haas won a tightly contested race to unseat incumbent Maurice Groce by 68 votes, for the second ward seat of the city commission. The vote was 1,105 to 1,037.
Haas may have won his race because he disagreed with his opponent on the size of the city's debt.
"My campaign pointed out that we had $30 million in debt, which surprised and shook up a lot of voters," said Haas.
He notes that this debt was incurred by unnecessary expenditures for a new city hall, a hall of justice, and a library.
"As a result, taxes have had to be increased, pinching many a resident who would like to spend that money to pay for medications or for paint for their houses," he said.

Three D.C. Libertarians heading for ballot
Bruce Majors
Bruce Majors,
D.C. Libertarian Party
Candidate for Mayor
Three Libertarians today filed petitions with the D.C. Board of Elections with enough signatures to assure them places on the April 2014 primary ballot. Winners in the primary are automatically assured placement on the November 2014 general election ballot.
The three candidates who filed signatures today are:
  1. Bruce Majors for mayor. Majors, a resident of Ward 2, has lived in Washington, D.C., since 1980. A Realtor and graduate student in economics at George Mason University, Majors's 2012 campaign for Congress earned 16,500 votes and permanent ballot status for the Libertarian Party in D.C., making ballot access dramatically easier than in the past.
  2. Frederick Steiner for city council at large. Steiner is a resident of Ward 4. An IT professional, he is married and the father of a one-year-old. He earned an MBA from George Mason University in 2011.
  3. Sara Jane Panfil for delegate to Congress. Panfil is a Ward 3 resident and paralegal. She is a 2010 graduate of Columbia University.
